DePinto Receives IAGLR 2000 Anderson-Everett Award

Joseph DePinto receives 2000 Anderson Everett Award.Dr. Joseph V. DePinto received the 2000 Anderson-Everett Award for his important and continuing contributions to the International Association for Great Lakes Research. Considered to be IAGLR’s most prestigious award, the Anderson-Everett Award was presented to Dr. DePinto by Past-President, Victoria Harris, at the 43rd Conference on Great Lakes Research, in Cornwall, Ontario.

Joe DePinto has served the association in numerous valuable capacities since 1984. As the Publications Committee Chair since 1994, he continues to shape the future for the Journal of Great Lakes Research (JGLR) and IAGLR’s electronic communications. Some of Joe’s most notable contributions to IAGLR include the following:

  • 1982 – Joseph V. DePinto, Thomas C. Young and Scott C. Martin received the IAGLR Chandler-Misener Award for best paper in the JGLR, titled Algal-available phosphorus in suspended sediments from lower Great Lakes tributaries, (JGLR Vol. 7, 1981).
  • 1984-Present – Associate Editor for the JGLR
  • 1984-85 – Served on the IAGLR Board of Directors
  • 1985-86 – Served as IAGLR Vice-President
  • 1986-87 – Served as IAGLR President
  • 1987-88 – Served as IAGLR Past-President
  • 1991 – Co-hosted the 34th Conference on Great Lakes Research with Ralph R. Rumer, at SUNY, Buffalo, NY
  • 1994-Present – Chair of the IAGLR Publications Committee
  • 1995 - Present – Established the IAGLR web site and IAGLR list-server
  • 1997 – Co-hosted the 40th Conference on Great Lakes Research with Stephen B. Brandt, at Buffalo State College and University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY

Throughout his 16 years of service to IAGLR, Joe has consistently provided cool-headed leadership and hard work to manage the affairs of the association and advance the dissemination of Great Lakes scientific information.

After nearly 10 years as professor with the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at State University of New York at Buffalo, Dr. DePinto recently joined Limno-Tech, Inc. in Ann Arbor, Mich. This move puts Joe even closer to IAGLR’s home office and we look forward to working with Joe for years to come.
