Evaluating the Effects of Detroit River/Lake Erie PCB Control Measures

PhotoSixty researchers from Canada and the United States gathered at a workshop in Windsor, Ont., to assess recent trends in PCB loadings and associated ecosystem changes within the Detroit River-Western Lake Erie Basin. Their ultimate goal? To develop advice for future monitoring, research, modeling and management.

The workshop, titled "Evaluating Ecosystem Results of PCB Control Measures within the Detroit River-Western Lake Erie Basin," was held June 18-19, 2002. It was convened by Wayne State University, the University of Windsor, the International Association for Great Lakes Research, the Greater Detroit American Heritage River Initiative and other organizations, with grant funding from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Great Lakes National Program Office.

A final workshop report will be available in spring 2003. IAGLR's involvement in this workshop was in response to its current emphasis on strengthening the science-policy linkage in the Great Lakes Basin.
