A nonprofit organization with more than 700 members, the International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) was established to promote all aspects of research on the Great Lakes and other large lakes, and to disseminate research information through publications and meetings.

This publication was prepared by Stephen Bocking, with research assistance from Matt Griem, under the auspices of a special committee struck by the IAGLR Board of Directors, with support from a grant from The Joyce Foundation to strengthen the science-policy linkage in the Great Lakes Basin. For more information contact Stephen Bocking, sbocking@trentu.ca. For more information on IAGLR's science-policy initiative, please contact Dr. John Hartig, Detroit River Navigator for the Greater Detroit American Heritage River Initiative, jhartig@msodetroit.uscg.mil.
