The information below describes the project and seeks your input on key issues related to strengthening the scientific foundations of Great Lakes policy.

Purpose: To provide scientific support of Great Lakes policy development.

Method: An online survey of Great Lakes organizations to identify and rank high-priority policy issues in the Great Lakes region, and to identify desired information to assist policymakers in decision-making regarding these issues.

Many groups have a stake in Great Lakes issues; however, the following criteria were used to select survey participants for this project.

  • A broad, Great Lakes policy mandate
  • Traditional ties to the basin
  • A role in Great Lakes policymaking, advising, or resource management

Utility: Data collected through this survey will enable IAGLR and partner organizations to develop more focused information exchanges among Great Lakes science and policy communities and in so doing will help advance the scientific foundations of Great Lakes policy.

Funding: Support for this effort is being provided by the Joyce Foundation to help fulfill its mission of strengthening public policies in ways that improve the quality of life in the Great Lakes region.

Informed Consent: It is our intent that participants in this research fully understand the study's purpose, methods, utility, and financial support.
