A nonprofit organization with more than 700 members, the International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) was established to promote all aspects of research on the Great Lakes and other large lakes, and to disseminate research information through publications and meetings.
This science translation publication was prepared by a special committee struck by the IAGLR Board of Directors under the auspices of a grant from The Joyce Foundation to strengthen the science-policy linkage in the Great Lakes Basin. The IAGLR Board reviewed and accepted this report on September 9, 2002. Committee members who contributed to this publication include David Reid, Hugh MacIsaac, John Gannon, Marg Dochoda, Mark Burrows, Doran Mason, and John Hartig. The IAGLR Board of Directors thanks the committee members for their important contributions and thanks The Joyce Foundation for making this work possible.
